A huge number of earthquakes occurred in Central Italy during 2016 and 2017, hitting four regions and 131 villages in the Appenine Mountains. These events caused big damage to people and territories, changing aspects and histories of places on a deep level.
"Non solo l’eco", the Italian title for "Not only the echo", is a project that collects, investigates, shows and hides fragments of an incomplete history. The earthquake phenomena highlights the intricate compenetration between the geological and the anthropocentric. "Non solo l'eco" reveals the complexity of catastrophes through images and suggests a reflection on man’s relationship with environment. Temporality, disaster, memory and scientific knowledge are the main themes investigated here.
Through direct observation of places the author experiences a profound look on an area, the zone of Frontignano di Ussita.
Ussita is a mountain borgo in the hinterland of Marche and, as the epicenter of one of the seismic events, it was one of the villages most affected by the earthquakes. Frontignano is its highest part and its landscape, through silence and geological primogeniture, is reminiscent of several stories and times.

Gli eventi sismici che tra il 2016 e il 2017 hanno colpito l’Appennino Centrale hanno causato ingenti danni alla popolazione e ai territori interessati, mutandone l’aspetto e la storia.
Non solo l’eco interroga, raccoglie, mostra e cela frammenti di una storia incompleta. Indaga un fenomeno naturale in cui tempo antropocentrico e tempo geologico si scontrano e si confrontano, il terremoto. Il paesaggio montano della zona di Ussita, comune marchigiano fortemente colpito dagli eventi sismici è assunto come luogo reale ed empirico in cui ricercare la restituzione di una tale complessità. Mediante l’impiego di diversi tipi di immagini fotografiche e di soggetti si vanno a interpellare temi quali temporalità, catastrofe, memoria e conoscenza scientifica.
